Franklin Memorial Medical Arts, Farmington, ME

TMD was an integral part of the design team for a new medical office building in Farmington, ME.  The main lobby within the new Franklin Memorial Medical Arts building features an open floor plan with cathedral ceilings, a 40 ft. fieldstone fireplace, waterfall feature and curved staircase.  Nestled into a tall grove of pines, the building has a lodge type atmosphere reminiscent of the fly fishing camps of the early 1900’s. The main design theme for this project was to bring elements of the outside environment inside the building to enhance the healing process.  From the natural stone and wood finishes of the main lobby spaces to the organic motifs used in the upholstery fabrics and glass screen dividers in the waiting areas for each practice, the nature theme was reinforced.  The overall color palettes were directly influenced by the natural exterior setting.  Custom furniture and artwork by local artisans were an important component of the regional approach to the interiors as well.
